Another useless bureaucratic move justified by an appeals court.  Not sure who pressured Trump to get registration of quads and their digital broadcasting pushed through.  

FAA is supposed to be managing the national airspace and not worrying about who might be spying on somebody in their own neighborhoods.  There's peepy tom ordinances in most towns, just let the LEOs take care of it.  But they don't even know the laws about quads.

One justification is because of a quadrocopter sighting at Gatwick airport.  Shut down the whole airport.  But apparently it was nothing more than a plastic bag.  This and other similar fud is being used to promote the need for a remote ID for quads.  Not current implementation on the books yet, but is due by September.  Bluetooth and wifi typically only run about 30-60 feet.  For the broadcast to be received might require being right underneath the quad.  This is also a disconnected function of being able to fly over people.  Prop guards are indicated, but if the blades stop, it becomes a free falling rock.

I suspect much of this drone mania is because like everything else our government does, it's all hypocritical.  They want to spy on us with something like this, and the government criminals don't want to be caught red handed with the civilians use of something like this.

Not to forget cameras are already everywhere as we are one nation under surveillance.  Be might be spied on by our smartphones, but nobody says anything about the illegal wiretapping that entails.  But if you remember that cell phones were all the bane of complaint.  One could take this device anywhere and be able to call anyone, anytime, anywhere. Well except for it couldn't be used here or there or while at work or the doctor's office or while driving or many other places.  

And then there's the door bell camera.  And your local LEO wants you to cough up money to buy one of these things, not just for your convenience, but theirs as well. Yes, share all that live footage from your door bell with your local LEO.  

But the only complaint now is the guy buzzing his readily available drone around.  

And how it can supposedly fly around and look through your windows.  Even when it reflects light and is brighter outdoors than when it is indoors.

The problem was that remote ID was going to allow anybody to identify the quad operator, and come hunt them down with pitchforks and fire bonscwhile they are still flying.  Lazy government allowing typical citizens to do the enforcement of the rules for them, if they even know what the rules are.  FAA has been entrusted to manage the national airspace, and remote ID doesn't do that.  It doesn't keep quads from incursions, nor does it prevent incursions from quads and manned aircraft (the stated purpose).

Many quads may have to be retrofitted with remote ID modules which may lead to other problems as well.  DJI has a remote identification on them, but it most likely won't be along FAA specifications, if they ever decide what those may be.  DJI might be able to do a firmware update to many of their models to come into compliance but this is yet to be seen.

I 'm in the 150 Range . 20ish Min Flight Time . Great Vid Camera . Didn 't Take Much of Anything to Transmit Vid Feed to My Old Dell Lap Top .

I can get Over the Tree Line at the Road Side and See Who may be Coming or Going .

It's a Very Early Model .

If it's lighter than 250g (.55 lbs), you won't have to register it or have need for a remote ID module, unless you are in airspace/operations that requires compliance.
