Big batch of chicken corn soup coming up!

Here is perhaps my very favorite chicken recipe, which I got from my Mom, may she be Resting In Peace.
It is also a "very favorite" with my kids and grandkids.

Her Chicken and Noodles were even better, but I never was able to make home made noodles like she did.   Daydream

Chicken Pot Pie
(“Chicken & Biscuits”)

Cut up a chicken (or use a pre-cut chicken) and put in a large cooking pot.
Cover chicken pieces with cool water and bring to a boil.  Simmer for only about 2 or 3 minutes, until scum forms.  Drain, wipe scum from pan (I use a paper towel to do this), and cover chicken with water again.  Add about ½ teaspoon salt, few shakes pepper, chopped onion, diced celery, a handful of chopped parsley, and a bit of diced jalapeño pepper.

Simmer until chicken is tender, about one hour.

Make biscuits with a little extra butter.

Using tongs, place cooked chicken pieces in large shallow pan.  (I will often remove all the bones, but you don’t have to do that.)
Drain a can of green beans (I prefer the French cut) and layer that over the chicken.

Thicken the broth:  Mix 1/2cup flour with cool water until the lumps are out.  Pour that into the broth, stirring continually until the broth thickens.
Pour thickened broth over the chicken.

Roll biscuits to half normal biscuit thickness.
Lay biscuits on top of the chicken.
Bake at 350˚about 25 or 30 minutes, until biscuits are done.

Thank you. Heartflowers Chicken is even better if brined overnight in salt water...it helps remove the blood/toxins, tenderizes it a bit and has a better flavor when cooked. (Rinse before using)
I may try @Aquarius Chicken Pot Pie recipe.

My wife wants to take out the last young rooster so the layers get some peace and start to lay.  She thinks the rooster is stressing them which is why they aren't laying.

I think they are just too young, 4-5 months.

Seems they don't lay until they reach 6-8 months. 1dunno1

I like having a rooster around.  They look cool and I love to wake up hearing him crow.

They generally start laying about 5 or 6 months.
That may vary depending on the breed of chickens.

I doubt the rooster is stressing them to the point of not laying yet.
My niece keeps chickens, and generally has a rooster among the flock, and that has never prevented the young hens from laying.

And I agree ... 'Tis fun to listen to the rooster first thing in the morning.

I remember last year, when I was staying with them, it was so funny to listen to young rooster when he first started learning how to crow.   Lmao

@Oldcynic ~ We just added 4 young uns too, 4-5 months old.  Two Ameraucana's (blue eggs) and 2 Golden Laced Wyandottes.  We've found blue eggs, but no brown.  So we know the Wyandottes are not laying.  Hope they will start before the cold winter hits.

We also have a Roo and I too love hearing him crow.  His name is Charlie.

American Corporations have been buying our chicken farms in the UK and making those farms like American chicken farms.

That vid is not available here, but it grieves me to know they have subjected you in the UK to the horrible chicken farm practices that are here.  Sad
