Exploding the Watergate Myth- They lied to us

Two new books show that Woodward and Bernstein lied. And lied. And lied.   John O’Connor - a veteran criminal prosecutor and friend of FBI number-two Mark Felt, who in 2015 admitted to being Deep Throat - published a book entitled Postgate: How the Washington Post Betrayed Deep Throat, Covered Up Watergate, and Began Today's Partisan Advocacy Journalism.  The big question about Watergate is: why would the Nixon White House have wanted to burglarize Democratic headquarters in the first place? It was already obvious that Nixon was heading for a landslide victory. He didn’t need any DNC dirt. There’s another relatively new Watergate book that’s well worth reading. In The Nixon Conspiracy: Watergate and the Plot to Remove the President.  Both books conclude that it was the CIA/deep state who staged the break in at Watergate, the motive for the break-in had to do not with political secrets but to cover up a prostitution referral service that was operating out of DNC headquarters and the Washington Post wanted to protect Democrats.

The call-girl ring info was one of the motives mentioned back in the 70s. Nixon had a White House Counsel, John Dean, whose girlfriend, then later wife, was previously a hooker in the ring, or at least they had photographs of her with the others, and the Dems were planning to make that public because Dean was a very effective opponent. There are at least a handful of other things they were looking for.
All these plus WHATEVER ELSE they could find, to steal, copy or destroy... and to plant the bugs too.

Exploring Real History: Part 1: Bond of Secrecy My Life with CIA Spy and Watergate Conspirator E. Howard Hunt... Watergate in Context ... Watergate Days... Tragic Accident Or Murder?

United Air Lines Flight 553

United Air Lines Flight 553 - Wikipedia

On December 9, 1972, just one day after the crash, White House Aide Egil Krogh was appointed by Nixon as Undersecretary of Transportation, supervising the NTSB and FAA, the two agencies investigating the crash. Also on Dec. 9, White House Deputy Assistant to Nixon, Alex Butterfield, was appointed the new head of the FAA. Five weeks after the crash, another of Nixon’s men, Dwight Chapin, became a top executive at United Airlines. Am I to believe that all these facts are just random coincidences? All of this, as well as testimony from eyewitnesses on the ground that said the plane seemed to explode before it hit treetop level, pretty much defies the laws of chance. I was taught that if something looks too good to be true, it usually isn’t, and if you smell smoke, there’s probably a fire.

This suspicious plane crash is still one of the greatest mysteries surrounding the Watergate scandal. I call upon the U.S. Congress and the Department of Justice to reopen the case, and, using our modern technology, re-investigate it for possible sabotage and a subsequent cover-up.

Conspiracy theories[edit]

Dorothy Hunt's death led to the accident becoming caught up in rumors and conspiracy theories related to the unfolding Watergate scandal.[15] Hunt was carrying $10,000 in $100 bills when the plane crashed, and some alleged that this money was meant for people connected to Watergate.[8][15] James McCord alleged that Hunt supplied the Watergate defendants with money for legal expenses.[8] The FBI's appearance at the crash scene was also regarded by some as unusually fast.[14][15] Skeptics of the official narrative speculated that the plane was targeted due to Hunt's presence on board, and that sabotage of the flight was covered up by government agencies. As a result, the accident became known as "the Watergate crash."[14][15]

Proponents of Watergate-related theories included Sherman Skolnick, a Chicago-based private investigator, who alleged that the aircraft had been sabotaged by the CIA.[c] On June 13, 1973, Skolnick testified at an NTSB hearing in Rosemont, Illinois and claimed the Federal Bureau of InvestigationColumbia Broadcasting SystemUnited Air Lines, traffic controllers at Midway, and the NTSB itself conspired in a plot to sabotage the flight because 12 of its passengers had links to Watergate.[18][d] United Airlines officials had asked the NTSB to hear Skolnick's version because he had frequently charged that UAL was among those attempting to suppress his explanation of events.[18] He said that Hunt carried $2 million in traveler's checks and money orders stolen from the Committee for the Re-Election of the President, $50,000 in currency, and documents that may have led to the impeachment of President Richard Nixon.[18] He stated a hitman — that Nixon had placed aboard the aircraft to make sure that Hunt was killed — also died in the crash.[18] The Chicago Tribune said that Skolnick "[knitted] scores of facts and assumptions together loosely" and "[no] documentation was produced to substantiate the charges".[18]

The claim of CIA responsibility was echoed by Nixon's special counsel Chuck Colson in an interview with Time magazine in 1974.[19] However, the same article speculated that Colson was accusing the CIA of the broad Watergate conspiracy in a desperate attempt to stave off Nixon's impeachment in the scandal, and that Colson may have "lost touch with reality" as he faced a prison sentence.[19]
