Some Decades Ago I as Working at The Old Globe Theatre in Balboa Park , San Diego .

Held Itself Out as a Replica of the Original Shakespeare's Globe Theatre , London .

I Don 't Know About That , but it was a fun 3 Years of Stage Rigging Repair and Paychecks .

One Summer the Queen Dropped By . The Center Stage was Presenting " Don 't Drink the Water " . A Pretty Dry English Comedy . Can 't Tell by Me .

Had a Live Flame Fire Pit at one Point and the Automatic Override and Remote Control Shut Off Would Not DO ! Fuggin ' Security Wanted HANDS ON the lil Propane Tank . Four Hands at That . Was Fun Finding two lil Guys to hang Under the Carter Stage for the Whole Show .

Not Much Room Under There .

Had Run the Show for Several Weeks and Hadn 't Blown Up Once . I was a Pretty Fair SPFX Guy Back Then .

Anyway , Security Started Showing up Mid Day . Snipers on the Roof , Casual " Goers " Going Here and There , From Side to Side , Clowns All Around .

U. S. Security Giving Biker Me the Evil Eye at Every Turn . I Hadda Get OUTTA THERE !

Wrapped Up My Shop Work ASAP and Fired Up the Good Ol 66 FLH for the Ride Home .

Idling Out the Back Alley I Made Eye Contact with HRM . For all The World Her Eyes Were Sad . I Had half a Dozen Guns on Me and She Just Didn 't Want to Be There .

Neither did I .

Had I Pulled a Camera I Would Have Been Sand Bagged Quick as a Wink .

Came Away From That With the Impression that Royals are " Controlled " Figure Heads .

Her Eyes Told Me More Than I Understand .

Looked Up Her Visit and find it is Reported as February . . .

The Carter Stage is , or Was , only a Summer Thing .

Off topic but still on topic, do you remember the 'in ground' concert area in Balboa Park? It was formed like the hollywood bowl but all the seating was terraced ground/grass. I recall going to some concert there back in the 70s - maybe Jim Croce? Not sure.

Did a search a few hours ago and that was all I found. Did seating used to be tiered grass before they built it out? I swear I remember distinctly sitting on grass with the stage down at the bottom in the early 70s. I couldn't find anything in images like I remember. Though, the pic you shared I have gone to see outdoor movies and my Dads band and a friend sang there a few times.

I'm stumped. I could NOT have been that high! lol

I Seem to Recall The Bowl was Originally Terraced Grass and People Brought Pick Nick Doings to the Shows and Presentations .

By the Early 1980 's It Had Seating .

Don 't Recall When it Went In .
