Speaking of backyard chickens:

The broody hen will not stop until she has her own nest with some eggs to set on. Removing her from the coop is a good idea. Maybe putting her in a separate cage will change her mind. Without the sight of eggs to trigger her instincts, she will stop. Until she rejoins the flock. Oh, so seeing eggs is a trigger? Makes sense. I think we'll try this before she ends up ..........."in a stew." Thanks @SlowLoris.
I was just going to say... This is the second time you have queried on this. If having a broody hen is this much of a problem for you (your wife), the a stew pot is the best solution.

One more thought, try adding more nests. Ms Broody can't be in all the nests at the same time. Collect the eggs twice a day to make sure that she doesn't sit on an egg long enough to begin the hatching process.

A few words from Katie on Mother's Day in the UK.
My thoughts are with a mother and grandmother that have taken the daughter to a healthcare unit for 28 days, a young neighbour. She is such a sweet girl just 21 years old who has suffered since age 12 after being raped. Born in the sign of Cancer, so sensitive, so fragile, like George Michael and Lady Diana. Due to the pharma they've been giving her she has been suicidal and there was a recent court case with the police. She didn't know what she was doing or where she was due to the drugs that the medical profession had given her. My heart goes out to her too. Before they took her I gifted her a CD to show her that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
I hope that she holds that thought and that our Lord will help her through the 28 days until she returns home again. She's not the type to like being confined, nobody likes to be locked in. Bless her heart.

The pig belongs to my daughter, the pony belongs to the neighbor.
When Miss Piggy was confined in a pen with her piglets, the pony would put her butt on the adjoining fence and scratch it. I could tell that it was done to annoy Miss Piggy.
After the piglets were sold, Miss Piggy was turned out to roam a one acre area. She dug a hole and pushed her way through the fence. I think she was trying to get over to visit the neighbor's male pig. But the pony wouldn't let her go there.
Miss Piggy bit the pony's legs and the pony kicked Miss Piggy. They obviously don't like each other.
It was very difficult to get Miss Piggy to give up the fight and come back through the hole in the fence. Finally her love of food won out and she pushed her way under the fence.
We put her in with our male pig to see if that was her problem. Now we will have more pigs.

I'm pleased to announce Ms. Broody is back to laying and circulating with the rest of the hens. Throwing her out of the nest and discouraging her seems to have worked.
Egg production is back to normal! Thanks for your suggestions.

I didn't know anything about blue eggs either, except for robins. All our local eggs are brown. I have no use for them or the chicken meat personally. I really don't like using egg even to bake cookies. But since I was curious here is some more info...
There are three breeds that lay blue eggs: Ameraucanas, Araucanas and Cream Legbars. The blue color is created by oocyanin, which is applied early in the laying process. The blue pigment goes right through the shell, unlike the brown pigment.
The Ameraucana is an American breed of domestic chicken. It was developed in the United States in the 1970s, and derives from Araucana chickens brought from Chile. It was bred to retain the blue-egg gene but eliminate the lethal alleles of the parent breed.
Araucanas are considered smaller-sized standard chickens. Meaning they are bigger than bantams but smaller than Brahma's (the king of chickens). An Araucana will typically weigh in at around 5 lbs. However, they can be found in a bantam variety, but only if you look hard for them because standard and bantam sizes are both considered rare finds.
Bantam Araucanas lay amazingly large eggs. Araucana eggs are blue, a very pretty blue, but not as blue as robin eggs. Different hens lay different hues of blue but older hens lay lighter blue eggs than when they were pullets. The first eggs in a laying season are bluer than the eggs late in the season.
The Cream Legbar is a light fowl, with males weighing 7½lbs and females weighing 6lbs. It has a triangular-shaped body with a long, flat back. They have a single red comb with 6 points, wattles are also red. Earlobes are cream or white. Eyes reddish bay in color and the beak is yellow to horn colored. The beak has a slight downward curve. Cream Legbar Egg Color These chickens lay medium-sized pastel blue eggs. Only the outside of the egg is blue, and the inside is the same color as any other chicken egg.
