That's how it works - unless you went to that alert and only 1 - then you went to the post again with no alert and there were 2, went again with no alert and there were 3...

If you have NOT viewed your alerts you could accumulate a hundred likes and only 1 alert - when you finally check IT you will see all 100 likes counted under the post...

Now you have checked the alert and saw the 3 if someone else likes, you get another alert - if more like before you check that alert you will see the new total of likes, but will only have got 2 alerts - rinse and repeat...

Oh, I see, I (clearly) never knew that.  Is that the same with when people quote my posts?  I'm guessing yes(?)

NO, you should receive a separate alert for each quote, which when clicked will take you to that post...

The annoying alert feature is that if someone tags you, you get an alert (good) but if someone quotes that post you get another alert that the replyer also tagged you...

Okay, right, so I'm sure I've not been getting all the alerts for every quote. I will let you know as soon as I notice an example.

Oh I don't mind getting 2 notifications because someone quotes and tags me. It's better to get too many rather than too few alerts as far as I'm concerned.

I only receive a fraction of all the notifications I should be getting (sometimes I receive only around 50% of them, from what I can tell, such as over the past 12 hours), of when someone quotes me or likes a post of mine.
 

I'm referring to the Alerts in the upper-left of the page.

I just came across a reason for missing alerts...

I was checking one alert in a thread - then during me being in that thread other likes and quotes were made - they did not show in my alert box as when I went back to forum the software assumed I'd read the thread through...

Went back to see the posts and I SHOULD have been alerted to those likes and quotes - a part of how the add-on is written I guess...
