Merkel: Europe Should Brace For a Reality in Which US No longer a World Power

The US may voluntarily relinquish its status as a world power and Europeans must brace themselves for such a contingency, including by boosting their militaries, the German chancellor has warned.
European nations need “to carry more of the burden than during the cold war” in terms of defense spending, Merkel said, because they cannot assume that the US will be there to protect them.
“We grew up in the certain knowledge that the United States wanted to be a world power. Should the US now wish to withdraw from that role of its own free will, we would have to reflect on that very deeply,” she said, in an interview published in six European newspapers.

The German leader stopped short of advocating a joint EU military force, the idea favored by French President Emmanuel Macron. She said she saw the value of NATO capabilities, including the shared nuclear umbrella, in a world of the rising Asian powers China and India.

Speaking about China, Merkel said its rise “shows that even an undemocratic state can be economically successful, which is a major challenge for our liberal democracies.” This example and other post-cold war developments, from the emergence of the Islamist terrorist threat to the disappointing results of the Arab Spring, are a matter of grave concern for believers in liberal causes like herself.
“We have not yet been able to furnish absolute proof that the liberal system is about to win the day.”
But Merkel seems reluctant to join the US and go for a major confrontation with China, saying Beijing’s new-found power is a reality that other nations have to learn to live with.
“China has become a global player. That makes us partners in economic cooperation and combating climate change, but also competitors with very different political systems,” she said.
“Not to talk to each other would certainly be a bad idea.”
The same is true for Russia, the country that the US sees as its other strategic rival. Berlin needs to remain engaged with Moscow despite all issues in their bilateral relations.
“In countries like Syria and Libya, countries in Europe’s immediate neighbourhood, Russia’s strategic influence is great,” Merkel explained.

She is not a student of history. How she became the leader of a country is what’s inherently wrong with our world.

This example and other post-cold war developments, from the emergence of the Islamist terrorist threat to the disappointing results of the Arab Spring, are a matter of grave concern for believers in liberal causes like herself.

Defense Secretary Esper to brief the president on options for troops in Germany

POTUS aims to reduce the number of U.S. troops stationed in Germany from upwards of 50,000 to about 25,000

Secretary of Defense Mark Esper is set Monday brief President Trump on options to reduce the number of U.S. troops stationed in Germany by nearly 10,000.
The meeting follows one last week between Trump and Esper in which they discussed U.S. military presence in Europe.

The proposal from the Pentagon reportedly outlines several scenarios to return some of the troops to the U.S. and shift others around Europe.
Some at the Pentagon fear that Trump's directive to reduce U.S. military presence in Germany by 9,500 will encourage aggressive regional forces in the area, including Russia.

The expected reduction in Germany comes amid the president's repeated frustration with the country's level of defense spending, specifically that it continually fails to meet the NATO target of spending 2% of its GDP on defense – a number Germany aims to meet by 2031.

During a White House visit last week by Polish President Andrzej Duda, Trump offered some insight into where the U.S. troops might be relocated, saying that some may move from Germany into Poland.

Trump confirms plans to pull some US troops out of Germany
Leo Shane III

President Donald Trump confirmed Monday he is looking to cut the number of U.S. troops stationed at American military bases in Germany because of his lingering concerns that leaders of the European power aren’t spending enough on their own national defense

Until now, White House officials had not publicly confirmed the rumored troops cuts, first reported by the Wall Street Journal earlier this month. In an impromptu press conference at the White House Monday afternoon, Trump said he intends to reduce the American military presence there because German officials are “delinquent in their payments” to NATO.

“They owe NATO billions and they know it,” Trump said. “Why should we be doing what we’re doing if they don’t pay?”

Snip
Trump administration officials for the last several years have been pushing Germany and other NATO allies to spend more on its military forces, the alliance’s stated goal of spending 2 percent of gross domestic product on defense. Germany has not yet agreed to that mark.

But critics of the president have noted that the goal of increasing defense budgets is not the same as counties owing money to NATO, and argued that the U.S. presence in Germany is as advantageous to American military strategy as it is to Germany defense planning.

Maybe you can offer some info on this?

she ran on building up the german infrastructure, economy  and jobs for the people.  which she did. it worked very greatly!.  she "told off" many people who criticized her from the beginning. if somebody didnt like how she was running germany? she didnt care.  she did what she thought was right for Germany.  As one of the richest countries in europe and worldwide, she began branching out diplomatically and formed better alliances with France, Italy, Austria, and many others.  She put a lot of money towards the healthcare system, updated infrastructure to keep them ahead of the game.  She took care of Germany like a mother.  and then...around then 2012 mark, something happened to her.  she stopped being "proud" of what she did.  and instead of focusing on doing all of that for GERMANY, and the people of germany, she decided she was going to be more like a "worldwide diplomat" and accepted all this other stuff such as the start of the syrian refugee crisis, giving them handouts, whereas BEFORE, in 2007 or even 2009, merkel refused to just open the country up to anybody and everybody. She said "you have to work if you want to live here, to show you will fit into our country and our people"

what changed? why this whole globalist thing all of the sudden? well there were rumors that somebody got to her or people who infiltrated diplomatic efforts , slowly worked on her mentality for YEEARSS and told her things about globalist EU that was "good for the world" not just for Germany head of the EU. she went from having the mentality of The German People and having Germany being the head of the region (which it still is) to now being a globalist power.  and "they got to her". She didn't start off like she is now, by any means.  she changed.  in the beginning she was pretty damn good.  but starting in 2012 or 13 or so...is when she changed and no longer was FOR the german people or germany hardcore.  She buckled to the globalist bullshit and it changed her views and mentality.  hence why she started letting everybody in without any papers OR "work for it". which is what she WAS about in 2005 - 2012 or so.  very very interesting transformation
