Leftists Go After Two Plus Two Equals Four
#1
In George Orwell's dystopian Nineteen Eighty-Four, the concept that two plus two equals four had extraordinary symbolic weight.  The State, as embodied in Big Brother, controlled everything that people could think or say.

Part of how the rebellious Winston Smith fought back against this totalitarianism was to remind himself that, no matter what the State said, two plus two does, in fact, equal four.  To the all-powerful State, though, Smith's belief in objective math was a threatening form of insanity.  The State therefore used a mixture of torture and cajoling to force Smith to embrace a State-sanctioned "sanity" that denied reality:

Quote:"You are a slow learner, Winston."

"How can I help it? How can I help but see what is in front of my eyes? Two and two are four."

"Sometimes, Winston. Sometimes they are five. Sometimes they are three. Sometimes they are all of them at once. You must try harder. It is not easy to become sane."

By the novel's end, with the State's torture having broken him, Smith readily conceded that, yes, if the State said that two plus two equals five, that would be the correct answer.
Judging by a comprehensive Twitter thread, we have reached the Orwellian world of Big Brother.  This is a world in which those who represent power for the sake of power are working overtime to convince their fellow Americans to dismiss reality and concede that two plus two does not equal four but, instead, equals five:

The left knows, and truly hates, the fact that reality tells Americans some important things:
  • Humans cannot control the enormousness of our climate.
  • Except for a minute subset of people born with damaged DNA, boys are boys and girls are girls.
  • Penalties help deter criminal activity.  Without penalties, crime gets worse, and people engage in vigilante conduct that is worse for criminals than the rule of law.
  • Race is real, but it's only as a superficial construct (different skin color, different eyes, etc.).  What is infinitely more important is that we are all members of the same human species, and that's true whether or not one believes we are made in God's image or reached this point through pure evolution.
  • America has raised up more people around the world from poverty and into liberty than any other country in history.
  • Socialism has failed everywhere it's been tried.  As a reminder, socialism succeeded in Europe as long as it did only because America funded Europe during the Cold War.  All of you, with your 80-hour work weeks, helped bring Europeans their 35-hour work weeks and mediocre cradle-to-grave "free" medical care.
If leftists are to convince Americans that socialism has succeeded, they must convince them to deny all those other things that Americans know are true and real.  If boys aren't boys, if race is the only thing that matters, and if America is evil, then socialists can also make us accept that socialism is a workable system that just "hasn't been done right before."

In 2020, as the election looms, Americans must have a death grip on reality.  Two plus two equals four, no matter how much the critical race theorists (the ones who hold that the only reality is power and what the powerful deem true) claim otherwise.  If we do not hang on to the life raft of reality, socialism offers no life vest and we will all drown.

Chicago Leaders Call To Abolish History Classes Until There’s ‘A Suitable Alternative’

A number of political and educational leaders have joined forces in Chicago to call for the abolishment of the State’s history curriculum until a more inclusive alternative can be implemented.

State Rep. LaShawn K. Ford presented the plan Sunday in Evanston, a Chicago suburb, saying the leaders want to halt history lessons until sweeping changes can be decided upon.

In a news release, Ford cited concerns of white privilege and racism in the current education program. Moreover, Ford said minorities are underrepresented in the current curriculum.

Until there’s a more inclusive alternative, Ford is requesting that the Illinois State Board of Education and local school districts halt history education.

Excellent posts @Talon

This is exactly what the left has been playing at.

2+2=5 which we all know is wrong...while they insist we are crazy, racist, xenophobic, genderphobic, bigots, deplorable, CTrs.

They run down the list of nonsense ideas as if they've cornered the market on reality and then force their twisted ideological thinking on the rest of the population. By any means necessary, even by force.

They do this with their cult worship of Climate Change where they insist that the science is settled when no such science has been used by their side at all. Money, yes, lies, yes, but actual science, no.

2 biological scientific genders = 92 feelings about sexual ideas

Hillary lost the election = She actually won and we get to cry about it for 4 years

Social justice warriors are the new priesthood and their causes are their new religion.
And the media is their Newspeak while some corporations are the Controller.

Corporate Communism.

Some of this BS angers me to the point that, it's difficult to write about it.

Years back, The New Math was introduced. I had it in high school through the SMSG soft cover text books. I loved it as, it got students to think about the problems and their solutions rather than just cranking out numbers through memorized formulas.

In tests, only correct answers, the right numbers, were given credit for a correct answer. Your answer was right or wrong..no partial credit for "almost getting it right".

Today at MIT, a formulary is given to students during tests. You aren't expected to memorize formulas. Also, in many classes calculators are forbidden. You work out your answers on paper and show all your work. Your work sheets must be submitted with your answers for credit. Only correct answers are credited.

The idea of being able to think your way through a problem is paramount. But, you must be able to think your way through to THE CORRECT ANSWER.

Today, students are being given credit for their thinking, even though they can't arrive at a correct answer. This is foolishness. You're asked..HOW YOU FEEL about your answer, right or wrong. It's possible today, to get credit in some lower school math classes for Feeling Correctly about a wrong answer. That's where this 2+2=5 bullshit comes from.

If you have a kid in school, fight this nonsense. Learning crap will get your kids nowhere in the "real world".

Math is one of the few areas of study where most things are right or wrong. The logic applied to other life experiences can be highly important.

This is on the same train of thought as the participation trophy that was give to kids that tried really hard to win and do their best, AND also given to kids that didn't.

EQUALITY and FEELINGS

But it breed an entire generation of people that can't seem to accept losing an election because they never learned to lose, let alone lose gracefully.

This is what we are dealing with now...I can just imagine what Common Core Math will lead to in the near future.

Yikes.

Those trophies aren't issued in other countries. And, it's why the sci/math education found in foreign students is highly valuable to many in the tech world in this country.

Many Russian and Chinese students have more math when graduating from their high schools than many US engineering students have as college sophomores.

It wasn't always that way. Single Variable Calculus was taught in my small city high school in the 60s. Today, it's tough to find a school that teaches anything beyond basic Geometry.
